Page & Plant- Walking into Clarksdale (1998)
Walking into Clarksdale is a studio album by Jimmy Page and Robert Plant, both formerly the guitarist and vocalist for the British rock group Led Zeppelin, respectively. The album was released on April 21, 1998. Walking into Clarksdale has been certified Gold in the United States and charted at #8 on the U.S. Billboard 200 Chart, as well as reaching #3 on the UK Albums Chart.
Walking into Clarksdale includes two singles-- "Most High," which won a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance in 1999, and "Shining in the Light." Another notable song on the album includes "Please Read the Letter," which Robert Plant re-recorded with Alison Krauss for their 2007 collaboration album Raising Sand. Raising Sand won the Record of the Year Award at the 2009 Grammy Awards. The single "Most High" reached #1 on the U.S. Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks Chart, and "Shining in the Light" charted at #6 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks Chart.
Notable of the album is that it was recorded at Abbey Road Studios in London, England and took 35 days to record. Abbey Road Studios is notable for other famous rock groups who had previously recorded albums there, such as: The Beatles, Pink Floyd, the Hollies, and Badfinger.
The name 'Clarksdale' in the album title was penned from the name of a town in the Mississippi Delta-- a historical home of Delta blues music. Also, Walking into Clarksdale was produced solely by Jimmy Page and Robert Plant, with the only exception being Steve Albini in charge of the recording and mixing of the album.
