Dire Straits - Money For Nothing Cover

Provided below is a cover version of the rock song "Money For Nothing" by Dire Straits featuring a backing track with vocals, bass guitar, drums, keyboards, and synthesizers provided by http://guitarbackingtrack.com. The video provides two guitars-- the lead guitar is the main video (entering at 0:35), and the rhythm guitar is the picture-in-picture (PIP), appearing for the chorus sections of the song. Both guitars are recorded and played by Alexander Schwartz (JPageFan71). All music and lyrics written by Mark Knopfler and Sting.

"Money For Nothing" is the second track from Dire Straits' fifth studio album Brothers In Arms released on May 13, 1985, and the second single released from the album. Both the song and the album itself reached #1 on the U.S. Billboard 200 Chart. "Money For Nothing" won a Grammy Award in 1985 for "Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group With Vocal." For more information on the album Brothers In Arms, see my previous post "The Best Albums of 1985" in 50 Years of Music.

Please note that the song cover is not intended to be exactly note for note and that I did make a few mistakes. I am only human after all and a self-taught musician who has never taken a lesson. Also, I used the 'single' version of "Money For Nothing" as a backing track. The full-length version runs over 8 minutes and includes an additional verse; however, the guitar structure remains the same throughout in all versions with only slight variations in the structure of the song itself.

Both videos were recorded via a Nady SP-5 USB Microphone plugged into a MacBook Pro Laptop and edited with the iMovie program. The guitar featured in both videos are a Samick Avion AV6 Greg Bennett Design Electric Guitar played through a Marshall DSL15H/MX-212 Celestion Seventy 80's All-Tube Guitar Amplifier.
